Terence Swee

Terence Swee

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Terence is muvee's chief deal-seeking missile, spending no less than 400 hours a year at 30,000 ft traveling to various reaches of the globe in pursuit of new business. Terence has been instrumental in identifying and negotiating multi-million dollar licensing deals with the number one players in every consumer electronic segment that muvee participates in, and putting muvee's product on the world map within 2 years of founding the company.

Terence grew up playing with Lego bricks.  At age 12, he built a remote control aircraft out of balsa wood from scratch. The craft took off successfully on its maiden flight, but crash-landed due to 'pilot error'.  This was Terence's first lesson in business: you can build something but it doesn't necessarily mean you can also fly it!  Terence has been surrounding himself with smart people ever since.

Realizing that it made more sense to get others to fund his trips around the world, Terence started music lessons, and subsequently went on to win awards and a Yamaha scholarship. The avid jazz pianist now hangs around jazz clubs whenever he can on his travels, often waylaying the resident keyboardist just so he gets to jam with the band (until they call the bouncer...)

Terence's insatiable curiosity led him to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering just so he could find out how things work.  In a bid to avoid working life, the Chief Opportunist somehow snagged himself a research scholarship that kept him in varsity on the pretense of doing a Masters degree, during which he published a smattering of academic papers on Wavelets and Multi Resolutional Analysis in the USA, Israel, Turkey and Australia.  In that time, Terence also started Pinkspider Productions, where he composed and sold commercial music ranging from radio jingles to pre-natal training soundtracks. He also managed a stable of musicians, booking them gigs at local hotels and clubs. The extra income enabled him to buy an expensive bicycle, backpack extensively around the world, and indulge in a little bit of volcano climbing along the way.

When he was finally forced to get a real job, Terence joined Kent Ridge Digital Labs where he combined his music knowledge and signal processing background to develop algorithms to aesthetically fuse voice and music using spectral manipulation techniques.  He went on to develop Beat Extraction and Tempo Analysis techniques and created means to measure the 'Emotional Index' of music.  These were later implemented into muvee’s flagship autoProducer product.  Terence soon realized it was more fun to travel the world and sell the stuff he had helped to build so, ever since muvee filed its patents in 2001, he has been working the international circuit showing autoProducer off to people.

And lest anyone think the once-wacky kid has found sanity in a suit, let it be known that Terence is also an Ironman. Yes, he was crazy enough to take on the full 226km swim-bike-run triathlon challenge, and was only the 25th Singaporean to have completed it back in 2000. Lucky for him, Terence's Ironman story was published in a non-fiction title by Breakaway Books, NY, as proof.

Dr. Pete Kellock

Dr. Pete Kellock

founder/strategist/inventor/muveeographer

Pete recently turned fifty and is still trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up.

When he was ten he wanted to be an explorer or an inventor.  He hasn't yet discovered any new continents (despite trips to some pretty remote places), but he has made a start as an inventor, creating new tools for interactive music production, desktop sound effects, automatic video editing and other aspects of digital media.

When he was sixteen he wanted to be a professional horn player in classical orchestras, but after doing that part-time for a few years he began to wonder how he'd feel at forty playing Mozart's Fortieth for the fortieth time.  Classical music is still very close to his heart, but over the years he found himself more and more drawn to music which allows for improvisation.  So he started playing synths and writing music for rock bands, culminating in a commercial album in 1994.

Meantime in a parallel life he studied physics and got deeply into electronics/computers, designing digital hardware and writing software for all kinds of applications from financial services to Arabic word-processing.  And of course software for music, and later for video.

Bit by bit he moved to the dark side as a manager and entrepreneur.  To his complete surprise he discovered along the way some talent for leadership, or whatever you want to call the mysterious quality which convinces a team of people to share a dream and work like maniacs for years to turn it into reality.

One constant theme through all of this has been his passion for pushing the envelope wherever media meets technology.  Every day he's driven by the feeling that we're still barely scratching the surface of what's possible, that the revolution conveniently labeled "digital media" is still in its early stages.  And he feels immensely lucky to be in a position to help shape this revolution.  Surrounded by the diverse, brilliant team that is muvee, he is privileged to lead the creation of products which redefine how digital media are created, how they are re-combined and re-purposed, how they are experienced and enjoyed.  Above all, he strives to do so in a way which - to borrow Einstein's words - makes things as simple as possible, but not one bit simpler.

All of which is a great way to pass the time till he's forced to take a real job.

Philip N. Morgan

Philip N. Morgan

Chief Operating Officer

Phil considers himself the resident cheerleader at muvee, encouraging everyone to do their best and more. A member of the executive team, he can be seen chilling out at an ice bar or shooting videos when not in the thick of the entrepreneurial jungle formulating and implementing its business strategy and developing the company operationally.

His experience in project management, communication and negotiation were crucial to his survival when directing a TV commercial shoot that involved a helicopter track, a Beachy Head lighthouse, a stopwatch and (a strong heart) to avoid hitting both lighthouse and the cliffs.

Philip began his career as a radio reporter and researcher for a weekly BBC Radio One youth programme in the UK. He then moved into technology roles with BBC Television and Independent Television News (ITN) and the national breakfast broadcaster TV-am. Philip then pursued his passion for production and spent five years making network television promotional material for ITV in the UK., This was followed by a stint directing news bulletins for regional broadcaster TVS and helping to spearhead its move into computerized transmission systems and commercial scheduling. Building upon that expertise he consulted at STAR TV in Hong Kong and was then appointed as Controller of Operations at a major digital satellite TV network based in Rome where he led over 200 creative and operational staff. Other assignments have included spending a year restructuring an Arabic Television channel and stints with Channel KTV, TVB (USA) and Sony Pictures Entertainment Television.

Introduced to the muvee world in 2001 and saddled with an MBA, Phil's greatest joy is coming in to work with people who are smarter than he is.
